The Episcopal Church welcomes you!
Welcome to the Church of Christ the King, an Episcopal parish in Arvada, Colorado. We are a growing and vibrant community seeking above all else to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. We take this desire seriously, meaning that our faith isn’t just something we dust off on Sundays. The Christian faith asks something of each of us—it needs to be a part of our daily lives—and we gather together to deepen that faith. We hope that you will join us!

A wonderful service as we begin a new chapter in our life together.
Our hearts go out to all those affected by the shooting at the STEM School. Here is a message from our Bishop-Elect, the Rev. Kym Lucas. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future and hope." Jeremiah 29:11 "Hearing the news about the shooting at STEM school in Highlands Ranch, I felt a barrage of emotions: fear, anger, heartbreak, and a profound sense of anguish. Twenty years after the shooting at Columbine High School, our schools and communities continue to be terrorized by gun violence. Like many others, I am praying for the victims and their families. I am praying especially for Kendrick Castillo, the brave young man who died trying to stop one of the shooters. As the mother of a high school senior, I cannot imagine how shattering it would be to have to bury my child just before what would have been his graduation day. My heart breaks for his family. And even as I am praying for the victims, I am praying for the shooters: for Devon Erickson and the unnamed young woman. I pray for them because I cannot imagine the amount of isolation, frustration, rage, and hopelessness that would lead two young people to believe that shooting their classmates was the answer. I am praying for them because I know they are not the only ones being consumed by those things. I am praying for our nation because there is a profound illness and brokenness within us that is producing people without hope. And while our nation's Faustian bargain with guns is being paid with the lives of our children, the gun violence seems to me the glaring symptom of the epidemic of deep rage and hopelessness that infects us. It is the call of the Church to be communities of hope: not hope in the vain treasures of this world, but hope in Love and the gift of life. I pray that our communities of faith will have the courage to address not only the pain within their congregations, but also the communities outside their doors. I hope that by grace, we will address the disparities in our nation, examine the dynamics of privilege and disenfranchisement and bear witness to the light of hope in this present darkness.
On this Valentine's Day, let us pray for all who have died from gun violence throughout this country, and for their friends and families. And please remember that only 1% of these deaths occur in mass shootings. Many are hidden in the everyday violence faced by communities of color and nearly two-thirds are the result of suicide. May the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

“Instructed” Eucharist Services Sunday, February 24, 7:45 and 9:45 a.m. Ever wonder why Episcopalians use so many different objects and practices in their services? During our services today, we will highlight certain objects, such as the candles and the Gospel book, and practices, such as the procession or making the sign of the cross, by pausing to hear a brief reading about each. Doing so allows us to meditate—at least for a moment—on how these objects and practices remind us of God’s presence with us. All are welcome to come and check us out!
This came into my mailbox today. I have often thought we are intended to be "co-creators" with God, but usually that meant something external to my self. This piece offers a new perspective on this idea - thank you, Amy Morgan! Rev. Becky Illustrated People I come from an illustrated family. My father and mother, brother and sister, all have at least one tattoo. As the lone un-inked member of my clan, I've often wondered what I would tattoo onto my body, if I ever had the compulsion. But I've yet to take the plunge into the world of body art, partially because I'm indecisive and have trouble committing to the permanence of such a choice. But I think it also has to do with my reticence to permanently alter my body as God created and formed it. I was fearfully and wonderfully made with my skin just as it is. What right do I have to ink it up? But then I consider all the other ways I have and potentially will modify my physique before my body returns to the earth. My dental x-rays illustrate the handiwork of several dental artists over the years. My skin bears the scars of accidental life experiences and purposeful extrications. Hip or knee replacements may be in my future. I wouldn't turn my nose up at an organ replacement or pacemaker if one was needed. And so I've come to realize that, tattooed or not, we may all end up being co-creators with God when it comes to our bodies. How and why we alter our bodies is a spiritual matter. We can change our bodies to express who God made us to be. Or we can change our bodies to promote health and healing. Whether the changes to our body are accidental or purposeful, artistic or medically necessary, my faith tradition teaches that "from dust we have come, and to dust we shall return." Perhaps those words would be the most appropriate if I should ever choose to join the club of illustrated people. Rev. Amy Morgan, Pastor, First United Presbyterian Church, Loveland, CO Northern Colorado Faith Leaders Caucus
